The Big Apple

Sunrise Landing’s innkeepers just returned from a visit to New York City. The occasion was the B&B Fair at the International Hotel, Motel & Restaurant Conference held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. We drove across the state leaving a few hours after our weekend guests checked out on Sunday, October 8, arriving in Manhattan just in time for a late dinner. We parked our car Sunday evening, and never saw it again until we left on Thursday, fully utilizing the city’s safe and convenient public transportation. Besides visiting the enormous vendor show and acquiring many new ideas to enhance our B&B, we met other innkeepers from across the state and elsewhere. Our wonderful 5 1/2 tour of beautiful New York City with On Board Tours helped us see more of the city than would have been possible on our own. It had been years since we were in the Big Apple – and it is truly beautiful – very clean and it felt very safe. The weather cooperated as it was Indian Summer the entire time. New York is so much about food – and we found some of the best at Cafe Boulud and at the French Culinary Institute Restaurant, L’ecole. Seeing South Pacific on Broadway was definitely a highlight as the production was spectacular. With its magnificent music and enduring message, it ranks among our favorite musicals, and I’d see it again in a heartbeat. The trip underscored again, what we already knew: that New York is a beautiful state – from one end to the other.
